WESTSIDE INVITATIONAL PIGEON SHOW

I had a great time at the WESTSIDE INVITATIONAL RACING PIGEON WINTER SHOW. It was held south of Weatherford, TX. Saturday Jan. 8th.
I was invited to judge eyesign and set up a table to offer our supplements to the fanciers.

The show area was a bit small, but I suppose the host didn't expect such a large turnout. I would say that the attendance was double what I've seen at the last several shows that I've visited.

It was fun visiting with my old 'buddies' and customers. Saw some fantastic birds!...

Well I had a great time at the Ft. Worth Summer Young bird Pigeon Show. I graded a lot of birds! Some classes were very difficult. I must admit, there were more birds and participants than I expected for a Summer Show. I like the fact that the bands were covered so no one could acuse me of showing favoritism by sneaking a peak at the bands. Most of the birds were in excellent health.

My wife Debbie and Gr.Son Ayden 7yrs. went with me. Deb took Ayden to look for turtles. He came back crying because she wouldn't buy him a $130.00 Russian turtle on display at Russell Feed Store next door to the show room.

We stopped at Bass Pro in Grapevine on the way home. I spent Ayden's turtle money on crappie fishing lures. We bought him a %6.00 metal "turtle on a stick". That worked!...

We just want to take the time to say hello to all of our regular clients and visitors.

We recently discontinued our 1-800 number. Most clients are using cell phone or have unlimited longdistance calling features. The 800 number was costing us too much in all the government taxes before any calls are received which made each longdistance call too expensive for the limited number of calls we were receiving.

Steve Troyer of Haslet, TX. called Friday 12-04-09.

He related to me how well his young birds did prior to the races. He uses our Chisholm Trail Supplements on Purina Gold Pellets year round. His birds flew open loft for hours on end.

When the racing season rolled around Steve dominated his club and combine. He told me that he is up for AU Awards when he submits his race results.

Steve has tried to get his fellow fancier to use the Chisholm Trail Supplements. He has carried our product on hand so that they can take advantage of his service and thereby saving shipping costs. Despite this, they seem satisfied with inferior health and performance.

Why do men purchase great breeding stock and then handle and care for them in an inferior manor?

CHRONIC LOFT SICKNESS

Do you have chronic sickness in your loft even while using CTL Supplement?
Your problem may be mechanical. By mechanical we mean self inflicted, unwitting errors occurring around the loft.

There are some fanciers who have ongoing loft problems and consequent sickness.
This biggest problem is poor ventilation. Some lofts are so "tight" that fresh air can't move around in the loft. Thus the birds are adversely affected by the protein from their own feather bloom and droppings. The proteins and dust must be vented away from the birds.

When I was a kid, my birds were keep year round in an open wire aviary. They could get under board covers to keep the rain and snow off, but the entire aviary was open. The only problems I had back then was the chunky, visible throat canker caused by cheap feed, (since I didn't have the money to purchase the better feed and didn't know any better).

When I became a teenage I turned a wooden shed, (which was a three horse stall), into a loft. It was shut up pretty tight. (not knowing any better). All of my birds got sick within a few weeks and all died. This happened due to my youthful ignorance. I learned a hard lesson.

Sadly, When talking to fanciers who obviously have these self made issues, they won't address the problem. They continue to throw anti-biotics at the birds. All they need to do is to properly ventilate the loft.

BIRDS WITH BRAINS vs BIRDS WHICH USE THEIR BRAINS

We've all heard the phrase "bird brained". How do we recognize a bird with brains?

It seems that there are many nice looking birds out there. Many that are aerodynamically correct, but they soon become a "blip on the radar screen", when training and racing begin.

Last year I sold a hen to Charlie Jonas in San Antonio, Texas. This hen is a daughter of our famous "Top Girl". "Top Girl" is full sister to the world renowned "Top Man". "Top Girl" is still laying at the age of 16! She's raised dozens of winners and winning breeders. When Charlie got the daughter in the mail, he called to tell me how disappointed he was and how "out of balance" she was. He would have never chosen her. I was ready for this and knew he'd be calling. He didn't want to come out and accuse me of sluffing off a cull on him, but I could tell he was disappointed.

I told him to give her a shot in the breeder coop. So Charlie bred her to a top cock in his loft.

Today he called me to let me know that one of her children won him $1,400.00 First place in a club futurity!...

I told him to send the "cull" back to me. To which he chuckled.

I look for brains in a bird. I believe you can see it very early on. Watch for a bird in your loft that is very aware of it's surroundings. Watch for it's rapid eye movement.

I was at a friends loft years ago. There was a cock that followed me around and seemed to be looking very intent at me. He was looking me up and down. I kind of thought he was trying to tell me that my fly was open. He was so visibly aware of what I was doing, it caused me to go as far as to check my fly. ha!...

I relayed my observation to my friend and told him that he should give the bird a chance as a breeder and that was that. For awhile.

A year or so later I asked about the cock. My friend told me that he had sold the bird. He also had gotten word that the bird had raised a big money winner for the new owner. I chewed his hinny out for letting the bird go and for not heeding my advice.

All birds have brains but like humans, only a few use them.

CHICKENS THRIVING ON CHISHOLM TRAIL SUPPLEMENTS

I have been using your product not only on the Pigeons but have been using

BRINGING BIRDS BACK FROM THE BRINK OF DEATH

Recently I had a person contact me who was experiencing serious sicknesses in his birds. These were show birds. He told me that he had several national winners. I think he mentioned six winners. They suddenly became ill and died. He told me that he had a few more sick at this time and had never been able to turn them around when they reached this point.

He asked me if my supplements might help. I told him to isolate the birds and give then the supplements heavy in their drinking water. (Now I don't recommend this everyday since the supplements sink immediately to the bottom of the fountain and It just isn't designed to work this way). He told me a lot of other things which he does, but I'll leave it up to you to call him if you want to twist his arm for that information. He did say that he uses wheat germ oil exclusively to coat the feed before adding the Chisholm Trail Supplements.

A racing pigeon fancier won't stay with a product as long as Jerry's been with us unless the product produces results.

FAST TRACK TO HEALTHY PIGEONS

Here's a tip on using CTL Supplements.

This will produce perfect droppings over night.

Have your birds on the thirsty side. Mix the CTL Supplements very thick in their water. Like a slurry. Then they will rush to get a drink before it settles to the bottom. Each time you go to water them thereafter, just add fresh water without pouring the supplements out. Add water morning and evening until the water in the bowl becomes clear again.

We don't recommend doing this permanently, just as a jump start when the droppings are looking a little bit "off".

Don't ignore wet nests!....
If you have pairs in individual nest, this method helps also.

Chronic loft health problems

Occasionally a fancier will call us to say that their birds continue to get sick even after using our Chisholm Trail Health supplements religiously. Invariably, when analyzing their issues we make some of the following discoveries.

1. Their loft is closed up too tightly. This can cause a mechanical problem from dust or ammonia accumulation. Many times the fancier is too hard headed to get out there and change the loft configuration. Birds need clean / fresh air / oxygen. A loft must be well ventilated!

2. They are trying to tend to every sick bird they find as if their loft is an infirmary for these birds. Sick birds should be isolated and treated with antibiotics. Our Chisholm Trail Supplements are not entirely for cures, but for achieving and maintaining health.

3. They are losing babies in the nest because of inferior nesting materials. Some nest pads and carpet pieces are good for the babies to get a grip with their toenails, but these materials sometime contain formaldehyde or other chemicals. These chemicals can be breathed or absorbed through the naval of the youngster causing death around banding time.

4. They often are notorious for bringing in a large number of new pigeons and throwing them in with their healthy birds without isolating and examining the new birds. When you purchase birds from fanciers who maintain their birds on antibiotics, these birds usually fall apart when the antibiotics cease. Leaving one to wonder what’s happening.

5. They think that our Chisholm Trail Supplements are a cure-all and preventative for all things. There are some things that still need attention, such as worms. Occasionally, canker is too strong in a loft for our supplements to overcome, especially in young birds, so a person should be on guard for these things. Some breeders are "carriers".

6. Their loft has open access for wild birds such as starling and sparrows. If these birds can enter or sit overhead and dispense their droppings into the feed or water, you will most definitely be plagued with on going problems.

If you have any of these problems and continue to ignore them, you are being foolish, for they won’t just go away. You must address each issue as soon as possible. When you do this, your peace of mind will return.

Thank you for your comment relating to my race results. As you know it takes a lot of things that need to happen correctly to fly well. If you think about your loft (Ventilation and hygiene), pigeons (Quality),management, health, training, feeding, dedication etc. it's difficult to assign success to either one of the mentioned subjects. It's probably how well you can blend these areas to achieve optimal results with your birds. What I can say is that I like to use your products because it generally promotes natural health and vitality in the birds without having to grab the medicine bottle for every single ailment. It enables me to train the birds, and see them getting fitter step by step with a lot less risk in them suffering a setback due to some kind of disease. I find the pigeon sport much more enjoyable by using your products as the basis of my health program. LET'S MIX IT UP

Here's what we use to mix our feed with Chisholm Trail Supplements. This small electric mixer cost $200.00 + and holds 50 pounds of feed. We put the feed in the barrel and add 1/4th cup Chisholm Trail Supplements with an equal amount of liquid, rotating such as garlic juice, citrus juice, various oils, vegitable juice, etc. When the mixing is finished, we pour the feed back into the bag or barrel, ready to be fed. We purchased our mixer at a farm and ranch supply store.
