Chronic loft health problems

Occasionally a fancier will call us to say that their birds continue to get sick even after using our Chisholm Trail Health supplements religiously. Invariably, when analyzing their issues we make some of the following discoveries.

1. Their loft is closed up too tightly. This can cause a mechanical problem from dust or ammonia accumulation. Many times the fancier is too hard headed to get out there and change the loft configuration. Birds need clean / fresh air / oxygen. A loft must be well ventilated!

2. They are trying to tend to every sick bird they find as if their loft is an infirmary for these birds. Sick birds should be isolated and treated with antibiotics. Our Chisholm Trail Supplements are not entirely for cures, but for achieving and maintaining health.

3. They are losing babies in the nest because of inferior nesting materials. Some nest pads and carpet pieces are good for the babies to get a grip with their toenails, but these materials sometime contain formaldehyde or other chemicals. These chemicals can be breathed or absorbed through the naval of the youngster causing death around banding time.

4. They often are notorious for bringing in a large number of new pigeons and throwing them in with their healthy birds without isolating and examining the new birds. When you purchase birds from fanciers who maintain their birds on antibiotics, these birds usually fall apart when the antibiotics cease. Leaving one to wonder what’s happening.

5. They think that our Chisholm Trail Supplements are a cure-all and preventative for all things. There are some things that still need attention, such as worms. Occasionally, canker is too strong in a loft for our supplements to overcome, especially in young birds, so a person should be on guard for these things. Some breeders are "carriers".

6. Their loft has open access for wild birds such as starling and sparrows. If these birds can enter or sit overhead and dispense their droppings into the feed or water, you will most definitely be plagued with on going problems.

If you have any of these problems and continue to ignore them, you are being foolish, for they won’t just go away. You must address each issue as soon as possible. When you do this, your peace of mind will return.

LET'S MIX IT UP

Here's what we use to mix our feed with Chisholm Trail Supplements. This small electric mixer cost $200.00 + and holds 50 pounds of feed. We put the feed in the barrel and add 1/4th cup Chisholm Trail Supplements with an equal amount of liquid, rotating such as garlic juice, citrus juice, various oils, vegitable juice, etc. When the mixing is finished, we pour the feed back into the bag or barrel, ready to be fed. We purchased our mixer at a farm and ranch supply store.
